Expo a Huge Success
The Sustainable Living Expo held last weekend was a huge success with approximately 1000 people attending over the two days.
The garden and home tours were particularly popular with several being fully booked within a few days of advertising. The tours featured many new locations such as a sustainability award winning garden and a fabulous new 7.5 star reverse brick veneer home.
Exhibitors were very happy that visitors were well informed and purchase ready. Many reported that business exceeded their expectations and sales were up on last year’s Expo.
Many guests from across Western Australia came to the Expo to participate in several special “sustainable communities” events such as a discussion of case studies with John Croft and a breakfast forum with the WA Greens. Transition Town Kwoorabup Denmark also held a local food swap market offering a wide range of local fruits, vegetables and preserves.
Terry MacKintosh put together a great program of free music featuring many of Denmark’s leading musicians and many people took the opportunity to sit, eat and relax.
Kids had a ball as well. Kristi McMullan was a wizz at devising fun learning activities focusing on earth, fire, water and air. The “kids corner” out on the back lawn quickly became an extensive worksite where children made peace cranes, windmills, blew bubbles, experimented with candles and created water pipe mazes.
We also had a great team of volunteers that together with staff were able to get the show running and help ensure all the visitors felt welcome. Thanks team, we couldn’t have done it without you.
So another Expo finishes and plans are already afoot for something bigger and better next year. Watch this space...
